Read The Chocolate Touch. Complete the literature circle job assigned to the set of pages:
Pages 1 – 34: Artful Artist
Your job is to be a character sketcher for the day. Find traits about your character and use these traits to introduce your character to your mom or dad. You need to find three words, or traits, about your character. For each trait, or word, give proof that this trait fits your character by citing the page number and paragraph that you found this trait. Then, identify the characters goals, or what the character is planning to do in this book. You will also identify one of the characters problems in the book and tell the solution or possible solutions to the problem. Finally, you will illustrate the character, or characters, to share at our party. Remember, these traits may not be directly stated, but are often implied so look deep.
Pages 35 – 54: Word Wizard
While reading these pages, pick 5 vocabulary words that you did not know. Complete your “Word Wizard” Activity sheet. If you need a dictionary, you can check one out from your teacher.
Pages 55 – 80: Discussion Director
Write at least 5 “THICK” questions for your group to answer at our End of The Chocolate Touch Party. Use your “Discussion Director” Activity Sheet as a guide.
Pages 81 – 126: Travel Tracer
Create a chart tracking John through the last part of The Chocolate Touch. Use your “Travel Tracer” Activity Sheet to make sure you've included all the important pieces to this activity.
John Midas loves chocolate. He loves it so much that he'll eat it any hour of any day. He doesn't care if he ruins his appetite. He thinks chocolate is better than any other food! But, one day, after wandering into a candy store and buying a piece of their best chocolate, John finds out that there might just be such a thing as too much chocolate...
